Breast MRI Services: Highly Sensitive, High-Resolution Care
The Power of Advanced Diagnostics in a Supportive Environment
When it comes to your health, precision is everything. For women at a higher risk for breast cancer, or for those navigating a complex diagnostic journey, Corley Radiology offers advanced Breast MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
Breast MRI is one of the most powerful diagnostic tools available today. By utilizing strong magnetic fields and radio waves instead of radiation, this technology provides an unparalleled level of detail. Under the expert guidance of Dr. Lauren Corley, we combine this exceptional diagnostic power with a warm, supportive environment, ensuring you have the clearest answers and a confident path forward.
The Power of High-Resolution Precision
While mammography and ultrasound are excellent foundational tools, a Breast MRI looks at the breast through a highly advanced lens. It doesn't just show the structure of the tissue; it tracks blood flow patterns, allowing us to find and evaluate abnormalities that other imaging methods might miss.
High-Risk Screening
For individuals with an elevated lifetime risk of breast cancer due to genetics, family history, or dense tissue, a Breast MRI is an invaluable shield.
- The Highest Sensitivity: It is the most sensitive imaging tool available for detecting breast abnormalities early.
- Safe & Radiation-Free: Because it relies entirely on magnetic imaging, it provides a safe, highly detailed annual screening option for high-risk patients without adding any radiation exposure.
Precision Cancer Staging
If a breast cancer diagnosis has already been made, a Breast MRI becomes a crucial roadmap for your medical team.
- Accurate Mapping: It precisely determines the size and exact location of the tumor.
- Checking Both Sides: It evaluates the surrounding tissue and the opposite breast to ensure no hidden areas of concern are overlooked, allowing for optimal treatment planning.
High-Resolution Clarity
A Breast MRI creates cross-sectional, 3D digital images of the breast with exceptional structural detail.
- Confident Clinical Decisions: This creates a clear, high-contrast map of your breast health, giving Dr. Corley and your referring physician the definitive insights required to make tailored, highly effective care decisions.
Your Experience: What to Expect
We know that undergoing an MRI can sometimes feel overwhelming, and our compassionate team is here to support you through every moment of the process.
- Preparation: Because a Breast MRI uses a contrast agent (gadolinium) to make abnormalities highly visible, a small IV will be placed in your arm before the scan.
- During the Scan: You will lie face down on a cushioned scanning table specially designed with openings for breast imaging. The table will slide smoothly into the MRI machine. The scan is completely painless, though you will hear clicking or thumping sounds as the magnets work—we provide comfortable headphones with your choice of music to help you relax.
- Expert Interpretation: Dr. Corley will personally review and interpret the hundreds of high-resolution images generated by your scan, delivering prompt, meticulous results to you and your specialist.
Frequently Asked Questions
Because Breast MRI is so detailed, it can sometimes flag benign (non-cancerous) areas that require further testing to rule out, which can cause unnecessary anxiety for women at average risk. It is most effective when targeted at high-risk individuals or specific diagnostic needs.
If you are premenopausal, it is generally best to schedule your Breast MRI between days 7 and 14 of your menstrual cycle. This is when normal hormonal changes in the breast tissue are lowest, which helps ensure the clearest, most accurate images.
